Getting Real About Climate Change
What I watched: “All Hail The Planet” by Al Jazeera English.
I forget which one of the following videos first popped into my feed, but after watching it I immediately had to watch the rest of them. Taken together, these five videos present one of the best laying out of the facts versus fantasies regarding how we can best deal with climate change.
I don’t know if this All Hail The Planet series is going to continue with more episodes (I hope so), but I’ve subscribed to the channel and clicked the bell to get new episode alerts. Should you find these videos informative, consider subscribing too.
The series is a huge reality check regarding our misconceptions about addressing climate change. It’s understandable if you believe some of these misconceptions. We’re fed a steady diet of them from industries and governments that herald these solutions as the Holy Grail of fixing the ramifications of climate change.
Sadly, what’s needed is for all of us to adjust how we live our day-to-day lives to:
First and foremost, stop the burning of fossil fuels as quickly as possible.
Refuse to buy into the reliance on carbon offsets to reduce emissions.
Realize green tech is not the magic solution that will allow us to ignore needed lifestyle changes.
Reconfigure our economy to eventual de-growth and not continued economic growth.
Understand that we can’t recycle our way out of the environmental pollution problem.
Redesign our cities to lower emissions, increase density, increase efficiencies, improve public transit, and provide housing options for the non-wealthy, while adjusting to increasing population growth.
My last post was rather long. So, I’m going to let these excellent videos speak for themselves. I’ve listed them in the order in which they were posted.
